Q. I have a question I’ve wondered about for a number of years. I have been an intercessor and have always considered it a calling of the Lord to pray in intercession for others. I understood early on in my Christian walk the importance of prayer and have seen a great many of those prayers answered. To God goes the glory for those answered prayers. I seem to know things about a person when I pray for them that I had not known before and I am sure the Holy Spirit gives me what to pray at those times. Is this a calling from the Lord or a gift of the Holy Spirit or both?

Q. I have a question about giving. A couple years ago, my wife and I prayed about an opportunity that would enable us to give more to the Lord. We looked into a small business opportunity that she could run while I maintained my full time job. We prayed about this endeavor and felt the green light to move forward. This was two years ago. Since that time, we haven’t made any money in the business.

Q. I read your response to that question, and have to say, I asked the Lord to reveal my spiritual gift, and after many years, I still have no idea what it is! I study Bible prophecy because I’m “obsessed” with it, as some in my former church would say, but I know there is only one Prophet, Priest, and King, so what else is missing? I’ve begun to wonder if I’m really saved because of God’s silence, but I Cor. 2:14 says I would not be able to understand, or accept God’s word as truth if I were unsaved. I tried fasting, but risked my health because I am diabetic and must not skip meals. I tried those surveys, but ended up more confused. Please help me understand just what use God has for me (if any).

Q. I have read that the office of Apostles and Prophets are not needed today as everything we need to know about the future is answered in scripture. How can we know that personal prophecies are real?

Q. I have been reading your section on spiritual gifts & I know from reading the Word that, as a Christian, I have a gift. How do I find out what my gift is? The church I attend is “big” on speaking in tongues & at one time I thought I had received this gift – not so sure anymore. The one I desire is the gift of prophecy … is that desire indicative of prophesy being my gift? Any insight would be appreciated. By the way, I assume teaching is your gift?

Q. Can you please help me regarding speaking in tongues ? There is a teaching doing the rounds that stipulates that for one to be filled with THE HOLY SPIRIT one has to be able to speak in tongues. Is speaking in tongues not one of the gifts of THE SPIRIT as are prophecy. interpretation etc? I do believe that I have a measure of THE SPIRIT within me as I always feel convicted and have the urge to repent immediately after a wrong thought, word or deed, but feel condemned and am not sure of THE HOLY SPIRIT when told that we have to speak in tongues.
I have never spoken in tongues yet, but, i do desire to be able to by GODS GRACE. I have sometimes tried in my own strength but to no avail. Can you please help me in this area?

Q. I believe God gives words to people to encourage and to help and maybe to warn. I just don’t think he has done so with me, until this last week. I felt the need to pray and write the prayer to an evangelist. It was a specific word for them. I did not receive a reply or comment on my word. It involved healing. Is there any way to confirm that a word was from the Lord, if the other side does not confirm it? Was this a false prophecy and was I listening to the wrong side? Please, any information regarding receiving a word from the Lord would be helpful. Read Post »

Q. Re: Famed pastor predicts imminent catastrophe – Best-selling author, Teen Challenge founder, sees ‘earth-shattering calamity about to happen’
A respected pastor, best-selling author and founder of a major ministry to teens predicts an imminent “an earth-shattering calamity” centered in New York City that will spread to major urban areas across the country and around the world – part of what he sees as a judgment from God.
I am confused, does God use people to prophecy like this today? Could David Wilkerson be right? Read Post »

Q. I have always heard that speaking in tongues in the evidence of the baptism of the holy spirit. My Mother has never spoke in tongues but I am sure she is spirit filled. I know she is very shy and feels people are always looking down on her. Because of her my brother and sister are saved along with many of my extended family on my fathers side. She wants to have a prayer language. Also I cannot find the verse in the bible that states that speaking in tongues is evidence. Thank you so much for your help on this. I love reading your website. It has been alot of help to me. Read Post »

Q. I’m watching pastors and people I have gone to church with in the past 4 years turn more and more to signs and wonders and human effort but now I realize that they all (by and large) lead away from the Blood of the Lamb toward the “man as god” scenario. Please tell me what you think about all this. I can read and read and read and I have — but at the end of the day, how can we know if God is working through them or not? How do I explain that I can’t participate with this because I strongly feel that the Holy Spirit is telling me to depart from them? Read Post »
