Q. I am hoping that you can clear up your answer to me on 11/4 where you state “… that in some way we don’t understand He gave up His God-like powers when He came to Earth and became fully (and only) man.” However, in one of your earlier answers you state “Spirit led study will bring one to the conclusion that Jesus is God, and Hebrews 1:8 the Father is quoted as calling Jesus God, and the fact that Jesus is God in the flesh is well documented.”

Q. I have come upon some verses were Jesus refers to His Father as ‘My God’. Rev 3:12 is a Good example. Having had past experience with people who don’t believe in the trinity is a text they pounce on! “If Jesus was God”, they say, “Then how come he is calling his Father ‘My God?” What’s the best answer to that text?

Q. If we are to understand that Jesus, God, and the Spirit are three and the same, then why would Jesus give us the illusion of going to pray to another being, unless if this is only to set an example for us? Read Post »

My mother, a former catholic, now born-again (praise GOD!) is having a terrible time understanding how Jesus can be God and God’s Son at the same time, and cannot at all comprehend how Mary became impregnated with Jesus.

Q. I am looking for a deeper understanding of the trinity and its relation to each other. God is “one” being, three separate personalities. I get it on the surface but feel there is more to it than what I am seeing.
A. There’s more to it than anybody can see. The Trinity is beyond human comprehension, and the Bible never explains it. We’re only asked to believe it.
For example in John 1:1 speaking of Jesus, the disciple wrote, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” And in Genesis 1:2 the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters at the same time.
In John 10:30 Jesus said that He and the Father are one. Yet He often went away alone to pray to the Father, and did His miracles through the Holy Spirit. Some say that on the cross when Jesus cried, “My God, My God, Why have you forsaken me?” He was speaking to the other two.
When He left the Earth the Holy Spirit came to dwell in us, and yet we’re told that all three dwell in us. In 1 Cor. 3:16 we’re called God’s Temple. In 1 Cor 6:15 Paul said that our bodies are the members of Christ Himself, and in John 17:32 Jesus claims to be in us. In 1 Cor. 6:19 we’re called the Temple of the Holy Spirit, and Ephes. 1:13-14 says that the Holy Spirit is sealed within us.
After the Rapture we’ll understand, but for now we just have to believe.

God in three Persons. Is each part of the Trinity called a “Person” because each one has a distinctive personality or is there another reason? How can you call a Spirit a Person?

My problem in understanding the trinity really comes because Christ is characterized as a separate being many times in the Bible. When He manifested Himself to Moses, and when He sits at the right hand of the Father being just two situations. Are the father and son (and holy spirit) only one in purpose or are they one in species, or are they in fact only one in being?

My question stems from a recent conversation I had with a Jewish Uncle who asked me to reconcile Deut. 6:4 “. . .the Lord is One” with our worship and praise of Jesus. Can you point me in the right direction?
