Accepting Jesus To Escape Hell
Is it selfish to accept Jesus just because a person wants to avoid going to eternal judgement? I mean, after all isn’t that the message Jesus gave, that those who didn’t believe would be in a horrible place for all eternity?
Q. I’m curious. Is it selfish to accept Jesus just because a person wants to avoid going to eternal judgement? I mean, after all isn’t that the message Jesus gave, that those who didn’t believe would be in a horrible place for all eternity?
At one time I think that I wanted to accept Jesus just because I knew that if I didn’t, I’d go to a horrible place called hell.(Lake of fire) and I didn’t want to go there. Now, of course I realize that my sin would have separated me from Jesus and so I would have had to go to Hell (eternal judgement place) if I had not have accepted Him. I also know the price He paid for me etc, etc.
Regardless, is it wrong to accept Jesus to escape Hell?
A. Escaping judgment is the main reason for accepting Jesus because it’s the reason He went to the cross for us. (Colossians 2:13-15) It’s why we call it being saved. We’re saved from judgment. All the blessings we receive because we accept Jesus are added benefits.
I think everyone would agree that if all accepting Him did for us was to save us from judgment it would be more than sufficient and more than we deserve.
