I was about 12 years old when I was saved. I remember knowing I was lost and needed to be saved. I thought my heart was going to beat out of my chest. I went to the altar and the pastor asked did I want Jesus to come into my heart and I said yes. I was sincere about this. I know that I confessed that I believed that Jesus died on the cross for me and was raised from the dead.
I am now 32 years old and wonder was this enough to save me. I know that I am a sinner and I believe with all my heart that Jesus is Lord. I just get confused sometimes that I didn’t do something right. Please help me dispel the doubt and fear that gets to me.
As long as you were sincere when you asked, and from your description it sounds like you were, what you did was sufficient to save you. At that moment the Lord sealed His Holy Spirit in your heart and guaranteed you a place in his Kingdom. (Ephes. 1:13-14) The fact that you still believe these things is the best evidence you can have.
Sometimes it’s hard to accept the fact that God would really do this for us, especially when we know we’re still sinners. But remember, He knew every sin of our lives before we committed any of them and took them all to the cross to pay for them with His blood. He saved us as soon as we asked because of what we believe, not because of how we behave.
