Baptism And Communion

Q

Is there any relationship between Water Baptism and Holy Communion? Where I live certain Pastors warn born again people to refrain from partaking of Holy Communion unless they’ve also taken Water Baptism. As far as I know, there is no Scripture to support this doctrine, and many pastors know this too. Do you have any idea about this teaching?

A

There are several denominations that place restrictions on participation in communion. For example, some allow only members to participate, while others deny participation as a form of discipline. Then there’s the group you mention that requires baptism in addition to a confession of faith. These are man made regulations that can’t be found in the Bible. Any born again believer is authorized to participate in communion and should be welcome at the Lord’s table.
