Conscience

Q

I know scripture tells us that we all have a conscience through our faith. I love God, it’s the only real purpose I feel. But as a person there are days when I will feel absolutely nothing for anyone or thing. According to my parents I was like that regularly as a child until I found Jesus. Is it possible that I was born without a conscience and through Jesus learned how to have one and feel remorse and guilt?

A

Indeed, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature things required by the law, they are a law for themselves, even though they do not have the law. 15 They show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts sometimes accusing them and at other times even defending them. (Romans 2:14-15)

This shows that even as an unbeliever you intuitively knew right from wrong and had a conscience to guide you. Therefore if you had problems expressing your feelings, it has to have come from some other source.
