Do I Still Have To Be Her Friend?

Q

I had a friend who did me wrong. I forgave her and pray for her BUT I do not want her as a friend anymore. She did not cherish our friendship the way I did. Do I still have to be her friend? I have never been a picky person but I want to start now. I have nothing against her except I do not want a friend like her in my life.

A

If this friend is not a believer you’re under no obligation to continue your relationship with her (2 Cor. 6:14). If she is a believer the Lord wants you to make every possible effort to reconcile with her so far as its up to you (Romans 12:14-21). But you don’t have to leave yourself open to ongoing attacks. If all your efforts fail and she won’t address your grievances, then you can treat her like an unbeliever. (Matt. 18:15-17)
