How Much Time Is Involved in Daniel 12:11-12

Q

Re. Daniel 12:11-12. Clearly there is a 3 and a half year gap between the ending of sacrifice and the erecting of the abomination of desolation. So there is this one who makes desolate for 1290 days then sets up the abomination. What do you think?

A

Daniel 12:11-12 says, “From the time that the daily sacrifice is abolished and the abomination that causes desolation is set up, there will be 1,290 days. Blessed is the one who waits for and reaches the end of the 1,335 days.”

If you only read these two verses you could conclude that there’s a gap between the two events. But from other places we can tell there is no space of time between the sacrifice being taken away and the abomination being set up.

In Daniel 9:27 we see that the two take place at the same time, in the middle of the 70th Week. And in Matt. 24:15-21 Jesus said the abomination of Desolation will mark the beginning of the Great Tribulation, which is the last half of the 70th Week. The 1290 day period equals the 1260 days of the Great Tribulation plus a 30 day period afterward. This is probably the time required for the judgments of the tribulation survivors (Matt. 24:45-Matt. 25-46). Forty five days after that the Millennial Kingdom Age will commence for a total of 1335 days since the abomination is set up.
