In The Image Of God

Q

When does GOD create the non-physical part of a human? Does He do it when the sperm and the egg unite? Did it exist before the physical began? Is the physical or non-physical, or both, created in GOD’s image?

A

Biblical evidence is convincing for life beginning at conception. For example, Psalm 139:13 says, “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.” Life resides in our non-physical rather than our physical being, so it stands to reason that both are created simultaneously.

Since God is a spirit (John 4:24) man could only be created in the spiritual image of God. But according to Genesis 5:1-3, only Adam and Eve were truly created in the image of God. The rest of us are the results of pro-creation, and carry the image of our father Adam. “This is the written account of Adam’s line. When God created man, he made him in the likeness of God. He created them male and female and blessed them. And when they were created, he called them “man.” When Adam had lived 130 years, he had a son in his own likeness, in his own image; and he named him Seth.

When we’re born again, the Holy Spirit comes to dwell in us and prompts us to be conformed to the image of the Lord Jesus. (Romans 8:29) This process won’t be complete until we’re raptured or resurrected, which ever comes first.
