Salvation During The Millennium

Q

A question was raised in our Sunday School class concerning the Holy Spirit and how people will be saved during the Millennium. One person stated they thought there was a verse that since Jesus will be reigning on the earth during this time, the Holy Spirit will not be on the earth. I believe you have stated that the Age of Grace will not exist during the Millennium, that those saved will not be sealed by the Holy Spirit, as we are today. Would you please elaborate on this issue? I’d like to provide some insight to the class.

A

The special relationship believers currently have with the Holy Spirit will end with the rapture of the Church. Verses like Rev. 14:12 and Rev. 16:15 tell us that after the rapture believers will have to give evidence of their belief and maintain their own righteousness by keeping the commandments, similar to the way it was in the Old Testament.

As for the Millennium, the Bible is silent about the role of the Holy Spirit during that period. One little hint we get that people will be saved during the Millennium can be found in Rev. 20:11-15. By the way he mentioned the book of life I think John was hinting that there will be some from the Millennium whose names will be written there. This makes sense because everyone who enters the millennium in their natural state will be a believer. It seems likely that at least some of their descendants will also become believers during the Lord’s 1000 year in person reign.
