Sinning In The Moment Before Death

Q

What if we are taken from this life before we have a chance to ask for forgiveness? Sometimes death comes suddenly. If during the course of the day we are tempted beyond our ability to resist and before we can come to a realization death beckons us? Are we forgiven?

A

Hebrews 10:12 says Jesus offered for all time one sacrifice for sins. And Hebrews 10:14 says that one sacrifice has made us perfect forever. Therefore we can conclude that if we accept it, His death paid the penalty for all the sins of our life, past present and future. This is confirmed by Colossians 2:13-14.

I believe 1 John 1:9 tells us to confess whenever we sin, but that’s for the purpose of staying in fellowship with God during our life here. As far as our eternity is concerned, we’ve become as righteous as God Himself (2 Cor. 5:21) and our salvation is assured (Ephesians 1:13-14).
