The Days Of Noah

Q

I was talking to a minister friend of mine, who believes that times are going to get rough for us Christians prior to the rapture. He doesn’t believe we’ll go thru any of the tribulation, but just that things will get rough. He also mentioned about the end times being like the days of Noah, that Noah preached for 120 years while building the ark, and suggested that we should add 120 years to 1948 for the timing of the 2nd Coming to be consistent the Lord’s prophecy in Matt. 24:37. What do you think?

A

The reference to 120 years in Genesis 6:3 pertains to the period of time between God’s warning of judgment and the Great Flood. But the Lord’s reference to the days of Noah in Matt. 24:37 has to do with the fact that many people will not be expecting that the end of the world is coming, just like the people of Noah’s time were not expecting the flood. It was not meant to show us a comparable time line.

It’s human nature for people to try to keep their lives as normal as possible during difficult times, believing that eventually things will get better just like they always have in the past. This is the attitude that many people will have as the time of the 2nd Coming approaches. But just like the flood came and took the people of Noah’s time away, the Lord will come and all those who have rejected Him will be taken away.
