The Fierce Leader Of Isaiah 19?

Q

Egypt’s newly elected leader Muhammed Mursi of the Muslim brotherhood is now in charge or shortly will be. Do you believe he may be the fierce leader spoken of by the prophet Isaiah? (Isaiah 19:4)

A

Looking for prophetic fulfillment from current events is popular sport among students of prophecy these days. And several writers have jumped to the conclusion that the recent election in Egypt fulfills Isaiah 19:4.

Isaiah 19 is a sweeping prophecy against Egypt that covers an enormous span of time. Some think parts of it were fulfilled by Nebuchadnezzar, who defeated the Egyptian armies in 605 BC. Others say history shows that verses 5 through 15 refer to the construction of the Aswan dam in the late 1960’s by the Russians, and that verses 19-25 speak of the Great Pyramid of Giza, and of Egypt’s favored status during the Millennium.

I think it’s premature pick a single verse from Isaiah 19 and apply it to someone who hasn’t really done anything except give a few inflammatory speeches, as politicians running for office are prone to do. But if we’re as close to the end as I think, it won’t be long before we know for sure. He certainly bears watching.
