Concerning 1 Corinthians 2:9-10:
However, as it is written: “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him”– but God has revealed it to us by his Spirit.”
I had always thought when I read verse 9 that I could apply this to a future time after we are joined with God in Heaven. I can believe that what the Lord has in store for His children we could not possibly have any conception of while we are still here on Earth. What I don’t understand is verse 10, “but God has revealed it to us by his Spirit.” What is it that God has revealed to us by His Spirit?
What I think the passage is saying is that although in our natural minds we couldn’t begin to imagine how wonderful the next life will be, the Scriptures have given us enough of a glimpse to make it attractive to us. Even without knowing any of the details concerning our new life, the more we study and think about it the more urgent our desire to be there becomes. This is the Holy Spirit revealing it to us. Nominal Christians have simply not taken the few minutes of study time the Holy Spirit needs to arouse this desire in them, and that’s why they cling to their secular world view.
