Who Were The Watchers?

Q

Re: Fallen Angels. Who were the Watchers? What/who did they watch? Who assigned them that function? What was their purpose?

A

According to the apocryphal Book of Enoch, the “watchers” were angels stationed on Earth by God to watch over the people, like sentinels. In the time before the flood, some of them became attracted to the human women they saw, and abandoned their angelic form to become human so they could marry these women and live among men. The children produced by these relationships were the Nephilim of Genesis 6:4. According to 2 Peter 2:4 and Jude 6 the guilty angels were rounded up and are being kept in chains for judgment because of their sins.

Watchers were also mentioned three times in Daniel 4:13, 17, 23 by the dual name of watchers (or messengers) and holy ones. In this case they were involved in the judgment against Nebuchadnezzar where he was caused to believe he was an animal, and lived as such for seven years.
