Will The Days Be Shorter Or Darker?

Q

I read an article the other day that presented a different idea about the darkening of the sun, moon, and stars.

He said the earth may tilt on its axis and it’s rotation may speed up, causing the earth to go into a 16 hour day…a loss of 8 hours or 1/3 of a day.

With the polar shift that is predicted for 2012, would you agree this is a possibility for the scripture in revelation concerning the loss of 1/3 of the night sky?

A

Since man has never observed a Magnetic Polar Shift no one can predict what might happen during one. Everything you read is speculation. In this case, the author was probably writing about Rev. 8:12 which says:

And the fourth angel sounded, and the third part of the sun was smitten, and the third part of the moon, and the third part of the stars; so as the third part of them was darkened, and the day shone not for a third part of it, and the night likewise.

First, you can see that both 1/3 of the day and 1/3 of the night are different. But it doesn’t say that they were shortened, but that they were darkened. That means for 1/3 of the daylight time the sun won’t give its light, and for 1/3 of the night time the moon will not give its light.

Some scholars believe that this verse refers to the intensity of light given, instead of the amount. If so it would mean that both the Sun and the Moon will be 1/3 less bright.
