This week in Mexico 5-15-26

Here’s a glimpse of our week of outreaches in Mexico.

Happy Friday, GTF fam! ♥ I’m so excited to share our outreaches in Mexico with you today! Because of our VBS in India, it’s been a few weeks since we’ve shared our group in Mexico so we have a big update for you today!

Our kids group – Escuelita

We’ve been so grateful not to have to go to the park each time! The tick treatment is still working, so we can keep meeting and playing in Olga’s back garden. We’ve had a plague of pests this spring, with an abundance of ticks, fleas, mice, snakes, and mosquitoes!

Making Mother’s Day cards!

When we began our “little school” escuelita, it was to give the kids a safe place to be while their moms were at work. And then, we expanded to include all kids so that stay-at-home moms could have a break.  Then a few of the moms started coming to help out, and then more and more began showing up. They really loved the ability to spend time together in community with the kids and other women. And, most of them didn’t grow up with art and craft supplies either, and they appreciated getting the chance to color and play alongside their kids too. We started getting extra materials so they could always join, and then grandmas started coming too. Now we have about 10-15 who come regularly, and this week they even let us take a pic! ♥

Bringing food to families in need:

Donuts were on sale, so we were able to bring some for the kids. It was such a delight, and that’s why we do it!

Our new house project: Alejandro and Citlali

Alejandro and Citlali have a four-year-old son, Ulysses, who you might know from our escuelita photos. Citlali is also about six months pregnant with their second son! ♥

They live in this one-room house that Alejandro has been building by hand with his dad since they got married five years ago. They lived with his parents next door while they built it block by block. Now that the Lord is growing their family more, they’re really excited to have a separate room! Our crew is helping them finish this room, doubling their space.

You can see from the pic below a pulled-out view of the project. The home and the room above, which we are helping finish.

And now these close-up pics of the project will make more sense for you!

Safe railing project: Marciela

Aidan has taken on a new metalwork project for Maricela, one of the beloved grandmas in our community. We helped replace her roof eight years ago! Wow, how time passes. She wasn’t a grandma yet back then! (You can see this project from Feb and from March of 2018 )
Here’s her stairs before:

And then, in the pic with Aidan below, you can see how they go down, wrap around, and finish at the bottom ramp. Her husband Danny made the ramp at the very bottom while Aidan worked on the above part, so that Maricela would be able to walk unassisted all the way to the street.

Maricela has severe rheumatoid arthritis and lives in constant pain. It’s caused her knees to both shift inward, making walking difficult and going up and down stairs even worse. Until recently, they’ve had only a wooden board screwed into the wall to help her go up and down the upper portion of the stairs.

But that left a large section where she needed help going up and down.

Oscar, one of the guys on our crew (and dad to the twins!) has a compressor with a paint sprayer and came over to help prime the metal. But that was more pain than it was worth, so Aidan continued on by hand.

Next update, we’ll have pics of the final paint and the handrail replacing the wooden board! The handrail is just extra security. Maricela can go up and down completely by herself now. The best part of this is that she will now be less isolated, because she can come and go anytime she wants. I’m so grateful!

She was so excited, she had her husband take this video:

God is doing amazing things here, and I’m so grateful for your prayers and support that make it possible. Thank you so much for praying with us for those we serve together! ♥
