Can The Great Tribulation Begin Now?

Q

I read a study by a post-Trib teacher who claims the Great Tribulation has already begun. Is there any possibility he could be right?

A

Since the Great Tribulation is the second half of Daniel’s 70th Week, and since the first half has not yet begun, I’d have to say no. Besides, Jesus said the Great Tribulation will begin when the people living in Israel at the time see the Abomination of Desolation in the Holy Place (Matt. 24:15-21). The Holy Place is part of the Temple and there’s no Temple there yet. And Paul added that the person committing the Abomination would be the anti-Christ (2 Thes 2:4) The anti-Christ has not been identified yet.

So then, the order is as follows. First Daniel’s 70 week has to begin. That means Israel has to be in a national covenant with God again, because until they are there is no need for a temple. Then a temple has to be built in Israel. Then the anti-Christ has to stand in the temple and proclaim himself to be God (Matt. 24:15, 2 Thes. 2:4). Then the Great Tribulation will begin (Matt. 24:21).
