Are We Literally And Individually His Bride?

Q

As members of the Church, are we going to marry the Lord in the literal sense? The Bible mentions a marriage supper and the Church is currently the Bride of Christ and we are brides individually not just parts of the Bride, at least that’s what I believe. Does that mean that in Eternity Jesus will be our Husband on an individual level too?

A

As the Church we are the bride of Christ (singular) not the brides of Christ. It’s a symbolic relationship not a literal one. A marriage between husband and wife is supposed to be a model of the Church’s relationship with Christ, but it’s not an exact replica.

The structure of the relationship was best explained by Paul in Ephesians 5:22 where he said wives are to submit to their husbands as to the Lord, and in Ephesians 5:25 where he said husbands are to love their wives as Christ loved the Church and gave himself up for her. The Church is to submit to the Lord’s will because He loves us and gave Himself up for us.
