Why Did God Bother?

Q

In your post, Man’s Choice or God’s? you ask, “How could He say these things if He had created some who couldn’t choose to be saved?” But, He DOES know when He creates some that they will choose to not be saved. If He foreknows this, then it is as if they can’t choose to be saved, because He creates them and yet knows they’re not going to end up with Him. It seems like a conundrum. On the one hand, He lets many be born who will not accept His offer of salvation, and on the other hand, we’re told that it is not His will that they be this way. But, then, why bother to go through all of this with humanity?

A

Knowing the choice a person will make is not the same as making their choice for them. God created us with unlimited freedom to choose.

Then He did absolutely everything He could to encourage us to choose Him, and gives all of us multiple opportunities to do so during our lifetime.

He did that because He doesn’t want any of us to perish, but for all to come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9).

In other words, if it was up to Him, we’d all be saved, but since it isn’t we won’t. He gave up His freedom of choice in the matter in order to give us ours, knowing that many of us would make the wrong one.

The only explanation for this is love, and the only reason He bothered is to get the ones who choose Him.
