40 Days of Prayer 2024: Day 2

Welcome to day 2 of our 40 day challenge!

(You can catch up on day 1 if you missed it here.)

Our verse for today:

 Truly my soul finds rest in God;
my salvation comes from him.
Truly he is my rock and my salvation;
he is my fortress, I will never be shaken. Psalm 62:1-2

I turn to David’s Psalms whenever things are hard or when I’m discouraged. They are encouraging and beautiful, and the ups and downs often mimic my own thoughts in hard times. David can swing wildly from complaining and despair to faith and hope in a few lines, and that’s often how my mind and heart flow as well. We cry out to God, and we are lifted up. And at the end, we can remind ourselves that He is our fortress. The last line in this passage is usually where I focus my attention. I need reminding often that God is my fortress, and I will never be truly shaken. And so, in this challenge, I turn my attention to the first line, which I have often moved right past.

Truly my soul finds rest in God.

Today, let’s consider how to allow our souls to find rest in God. I’m reminded of Jesus on the boat in the storm. This soul rest isn’t dependent on the storms around us. He can keep us in perfect peace when we are given over to Him, focusing on Him. I can’t calm the storm, but when my eyes are on the One who can, I can stay in His peace. My soul can truly find rest in God. We can have this peace that surpasses understanding.

Truly my soul finds rest in God;
my salvation comes from him.
Truly he is my rock and my salvation;
he is my fortress, I will never be shaken. Psalm 62:1-2

Reflection for prayer and/or journaling:
What does a soul at rest look like/feel like to you?
Are there any storms this week in your life that we can pray for to help your soul be at rest in God?

Pray together:

Father, we thank you for this gift of rest in you. We bring all our cares and worries and place them at your feet today. Help our souls find rest in you alone today. When difficulties arise today, help us turn to you instead of our circumstances.
