Truth Or Consensus?

Published: January 18, 2024 (Originally published: September 22, 2013)
Q

The man who wants to be our new pastor was preaching on unity and said there is a lot of division because of eternal security and we ought not let it divide us. He said it’s okay to agree with churches who do not believe in eternal security. He said that people who believe in conditional security are probably closer to the Lord because they are afraid of losing their salvation. According to him, those of us who believe that once saved we’re eternally secure are more likely to take our salvation for granted and not be as close to the Lord. Personally, I don’t see how living in fear of not being saved makes one closer to the Lord.

Interpreting James 5:19-20

Published: April 4, 2016 (Originally published: March 25, 2016)
Q

I have a question about James 5:19,20. I have just recently been confronted again by some dear relatives who have the strange idea that I no longer belong to God and they think it is their duty to restore me. When I mentioned Eternal Security they said I couldn’t prove it, so I gave them one of your articles and sent them away to study it.

In the mean time I was searching your site for something on James 5:19,20 and couldn’t find anything or possibly missed it. Do you have anything on this passage? Anything you can teach me on this will be greatly appreciated.

By the way, thank you so much for the Isaiah and Mark series, I have learned a great deal from them.

Losing Salvation in Revelation

Published: August 20, 2015 (Originally published: August 21, 2015)
Q

In Revelation 22:18-19 it says “I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues which are written in this book; and if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

What does this passage mean if our salvation is supposed to be secure?

Will Anyone Worry About Salvation In Eternity?

Published: January 6, 2015 (Originally published: January 7, 2015)
Q

After the Millennial reign of Christ, and the banishment of Satan to the Lake of Fire, I assume eternity also begins for all believers who are on earth. Will it be possible for anyone who resides on the New Earth to lose their salvation? Will it always be a faith plus works combination for them to maintain their salvation, even in eternity? Or will their salvation ever be secure?

Are They Secure If They Don’t Believe It?

Published: January 21, 2016 (Originally published: January 24, 2016)
Q

I was saved in a church that taught the doctrine of Eternal Security. After a few years I moved to another city where I attended a church that seemed to be gospel centered but I discovered they are part of a denomination that believes we can lose our salvation. When I questioned this belief I was told that verses like John 3: 16, Ephesians 2:8-9, Romans 8:38-39 and others don’t mean our salvation is guaranteed. During the conversation the pastor also told me he was taught not to accept the prophecies of Revelation because they are only allegorical. When I asked about Daniel, Isaiah, and other prophesies concerning rapture, tribulation, and the millennium, he said these were also considered to be allegorical since they are to come in the future.

I stopped going there, but later I wondered if the saved people there are secure because they’re constantly being told they’re not. I also wondered how the pastors of that denomination can have a true relationship with Jesus Christ when they don’t accept Him and His Word totally as written?

A Secret Jesus Couldn’t Reveal, Follow Up

Q

Re: A Secret Jesus Couldn’t Reveal. We do not understand your statement, “Blessings like salvation by grace through faith alone, eternal security, and especially the rapture, never have and never will be offered to Israel.” We understand that only the Church will be raptured, but how does the Jew receive salvation if not thru faith alone?

Can We Lose Our Salvation In Extreme Cases?

Published: June 20, 2014 (Originally published: June 21, 2014)
Q

I recently presented the view of Hebrews 6 that you discussed in one of your articles but someone suggested that Hebrews 6 is for an extreme circumstance where someone completely throws it back in God’s face and says that they don’t believe anymore and wants nothing to do with God. They suggested that in such a circumstance, it was re-crucifying Christ all over again and they would be beyond salvation. I didn’t say anything because I’ve heard of people who became atheist but ultimately came back to God. I was wondering if there was some solid Scripture to back up either claim?

Just when I think I have finally understood and accepted OSAS, someone comes along and throws me a curve ball and steals my joy. Please help me understand 2 Peter 3:17, as that is the most recent curve ball thrown at me!!!

Therefore, dear friends, since you have been forewarned, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of the lawless and fall from your secure position. –2 Peter 3:17

Fear Or Faith?

Published: April 1, 2016 (Originally published: April 9, 2016)
Q

Places like Psalm 25:12 & 14 speak of the fear of the Lord. Is it by fear then that we ultimately look toward Him for salvation?
