A Prophecy Against Egypt

Q. I enjoy your site and read it almost daily. I’m blessed to say the least. The question I have concerns Ezekiel 29:8-13. I searched your site and there was nothing there. I have never read anything saying this 40 year desolation has already happened. If not, when do you think this will be happening?

A. Ezekiel 29:8-13 is a prophecy against Egypt that calls for it to be made desolate with no one living there for 40 years, after which the Lord will gather the people and bring them back. Scholars can’t point to any time in history where this has happened. Nor does it appear likely to happen before the Lord returns.

In Zechariah 14:16-19 there’s a prophecy of judgment against nations who refuse to come to Jerusalem to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles during the Millennium. Egypt is singled out as an example, experiencing drought and perhaps additional plagues for refusing to participate. I think that’s when Ezekiel’s prophecy will be fulfilled.
