Q. Thank you so much for your insight in to the Bible. My question is simple, Doesn’t the Bible say that Christ would be the last prophet?
A. Yes. I believe the Bible tells us that in addition to being His Son, the Lord Jesus was the last of God’s prophets. Hebrews 1:1-2 explains it this way;
In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe.
This statement does not contradict Paul’s teaching that some in the Church would be given the gift of prophecy (1 Cor. 14:1), because that gift is not the same as being called to be a prophet of God.
Unfortunately, prophecy, like tongues, is one of the most frequently misused gifts in the Church today. I caution people against accepting any word of prophecy, no matter who it comes from, until they receive independent confirmation from an unrelated source.
