Q. Would the archangel Michael be considered a “Perfect” being without blemish etc. and if so, could he have paid the penalty for our sins if he had come down in human form and lived a sinless, blameless life. This is of course what the Jehovah Witnesses believe. I do not believe that the Bible teaches this but I am curious as to your thoughts.
A. The main problems with the Michael as Jesus view are that it’s not just a matter of taking on human form, as angels are apparently capable of doing. Jesus was actually born of a woman. He didn’t just appear to be human, he was fully human. And according to God’s law he had to be fully human to redeem humankind. Angels cannot redeem men.
Also, if Jesus was really Michael He couldn’t have claimed to be God, as He did on several occasions (John 10:30, John 14:9, etc.) .
And finally if Jesus was merely an angel appearing to be human, he couldn’t be our creator as John 1:1-3 and Colossians 1:15-16 claim. Angels are created beings, Jesus is the Creator.
Believing Jesus to be the archangel Michael is simply another way of denying His deity.
