I couldn’t find anything on your site regarding this subject so I’m asking myself. I apologize if you’ve answered this many times before. I read commentaries about John’s mother, Salome, being Jesus’ aunt. I have a hard time envisioning that. How likely is it that they are cousins? I appreciate your wealth of knowledge on all aspects of the Bible.

The relationship between Jesus and the brothers James and John is not specifically defined. But it is possible to compare Matt. 27:55-56, Mark 15:40, and John 19:25 and come to the conclusion that the Lord’s mother and Salome were sisters and that she was the wife of Zebedee and mother of James and John. If so that would make James and John cousins of Jesus.
