Q. Thank you not only for the time you must put into answering all of your readers questions but the time you put into your weekly articles as well. My question is about the Rapture. I have been taught that we are Spirit beings inhabiting physical bodies. When we are raptured will it be our Spirits that go to meet the Lord and if so won’t our earthly bodies remain behind making appear to those still here that there have been massive worldwide deaths?
A. In one of his defining passages on the rapture, Paul wrote that when it occurs the bodies of living believers will be instantaneously changed from mortal to immortal. (1 Cor. 15:51-53) This means we’ll never experience death. Therefore, our physical bodies will not be discarded but instead will be transformed. This combination of missing millions and no corpses will be the premier sign to those left behind that the rapture has come. (The dead, whose bodies have already been discarded, will receive new ones.)
