We value your opinion and it seems when we discuss a matter, it’s not long before you answer…..isn’t that great? Our question: Is it wrong to display a cross? Are we doing something wrong “according to the Bible” by putting one up on our property? Thanks for your reply.
Exodus 20:4-5 says,
“You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them …”
The operative phrase here is “bow down to them or worship them.” The purpose of the commandment is to prevent idol worship. Otherwise every sketch, drawing, painting, picture, model, photograph, video, or digital image of anything in heaven or on earth would be a violation of the commandment.
There’s nothing in the Bible to prevent you from erecting a cross on your property, as long as you don’t bow down and worship it.
