Generosity Or Greed?

Q

I believe in the word of God as written in the Bible. However, there are situations I found myself that when I pray in accordance with the scripture, I do not receive an answer. In Malachi 3:10, the prophet speaking the mind of God wrote that the windows of heaven will open and blessing poured out I have been tithing and I am yet to receive an increase. Kindly advise me on what could be wrong

A

In the Old Testament Israel’s blessings were based on their obedience to God’ s commandments (Deut. 28:1-14). The blessings promised to Israel in Malachi 3:10 were in return for Israel’s obedience in paying the whole tithe.
In the New Testament the Church is blessed based on our belief (John 20:29). Jesus promised to bless us in proportion to our generosity to others (Luke 6:38). Giving to others with the expectation of being blessed in return is not generosity, it’s greed. Therefore, paying of tithes has to be based on our gratitude for what the Lord has already done for us without any expectation of receiving something in return. Then the Lord, seeing our generosity, will bless us accordingly.
So, if you’ve been expecting the Lord to reward your obedience with an increase, you’re missing the point. Start giving generously out of a sincere gratitude for what He has already given you, expecting nothing in return, and things will change.
