Getting Over A Break Up

Q

I’m going through a very painful breakup. While in the relationship, I fell away from the Lord big time. I believe He is using this to get my attention. My question is this-What scriptures should I be memorizing to help with my broken heart, forgiveness towards her, and continuing my walk with Him?

A

I think the only way the Lord would use a break up to get your attention would be if He was invoking 1 Cor. 10:13 which says,

“No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.”

If you believe this is what happened, it means that through the break up the Lord was rescuing you from an out of control situation that would have resulted in much greater pain and suffering had you stayed in it.

That being the case, the verses you should focus on are Romans 8:28; “God is working everything together for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose” and Philippians 4:4-7, “Rejoice in the Lord always! I will say it again; Rejoice. Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Thanking the Lord for delivering you, even when you’re hurting, is called making a faith choice and signifies that you trust Him to do what’s best for you. Keep doing this and your feelings will come around. You should also ask the Lord to forgive both you and the girl. This way you won’t harbor any anger toward her, and your relationship with the Lord will be restored.
