Why Does God Want To Know Our Thoughts?

Q

I am told God knows our very thoughts, I fight with what I call secondary thoughts. Thoughts that are sinful and just pop into my head with out any reasoning. I am medicated from the mental health in the Veterans Admin, but some thoughts persist. My question is: Are unintentional sinful thoughts still sinful, and why does God want to know our very thoughts. I truly love the Lord and I will never give up, it’s just a question I have pondered for years now.

A

A thought that comes unbidden into your mind is not a sin unless you begin to give it consideration. As soon as you do that you’ve sinned (James 1:13-15). The problem is this can often happen without us even being aware of it. This is why David prayed, “Who can discern his errors? Forgive my hidden faults” in Psalm 19:12.

It’s not that God wants to know your thoughts. It’s just that He can. It’s the way He discerns the motives of your heart and determines if you’re sincere in your beliefs and actions (1 Cor. 4:5)
