How Do We Know?

Q

My twenty-two year old daughter was saved and baptized when she was seven or eight, but she didn’t continue to go to church as she got older. She asks questions about the Bible and recently asked how we know that our belief is the right one. After all, other faiths are just as adamant that theirs is the only way to heaven. I am so troubled that she might not understand her salvation or really have salvation.

A

We know our faith is the right one because God has proven Himself to us. The Old Testament contains thousands of prophecies that were spoken by the prophets of God before they happened and then came true just as He said they would with 100% accuracy. Over 300 of these concern the birth, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ and all were fulfilled in dramatic and specific detail. Only God can do this.

There are several hundred more prophecies that concern the End Times. Many of them are in some stage of fulfillment right now. No other so-called Holy Book can make this claim. The proof is overwhelming for any one who cares to look for it.

If your daughter was intellectually mature enough to understand what she was asking for then her salvation was guaranteed from that moment (Ephes. 1:13-14) and nothing on Earth can change it (John 10:27-30). Not even her current uncertainty.

Jesus said, “All those the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away. For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me. And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all those he has given me, but raise them up at the last day. For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day” (John 6:37-40)
