I understand that there is only one Author of the Bible. However, how many Spirit-directed writers contributed to the finished Word we read today? Also, what is the span of time involved?

Most evangelical scholars agree that the 66 books of the Bible were penned by 40 people. Some believe that the first book of the Bible to be written was the book of Job. Although the date of its writing is subject to debate it was likely sometime in the 2nd Millennium BC, while the Israelites were still in Egypt. The last Book written was the Revelation, in about 95 AD.
