Is Jesus In Physical Or Spiritual Form?

Q

The Bible tells us that Jesus appeared to many people after his resurrection. Thomas touched his body and Jesus ate fish with his followers. Obviously, it was a physical body. In what state did the Lord Jesus ascend to Heaven to be seated at the right hand of God the Father, physical or spiritual, and in what state is he in now as far as his body is concerned?

A

Acts 1:9 says Jesus was taken up (into the sky) before their very eyes. Since our eyes can’t see spiritual beings and since Jesus was in physical form just before He ascended it’s logical to assume He was taken up in physical form.

Years later when the Lord visited John on the Isle of Patmos he looked “like a son of man”, meaning He was in human form (Rev. 1:12-13). Still later, when John was taken to the Throne of God, he saw a Lamb as it had been slain (Rev. 5:5-6). One of the elders identified Him as Jesus. Although John’s description is symbolic, many scholars believe John saw Jesus in physical form still bearing the scars of His crucifixion standing at the throne of God. They believe that’s the way He looks today.

When Jesus came to Earth, He put aside His godly powers and limited Himself to the abilities of a man. He accomplished His miracles through the power of the Holy Spirit. When He returned to heaven He remained in the form of a man but took up his godly powers again. So in Jesus God became man and now He’s both God and man.

The Son is is the radiance of God’s Glory and the exact representation of His being, sustaining all things by His powerful word. After He had by himself provided purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of majesty in Heaven (Hebrews 1:3).
