Is The Parable Of The Talents About Us?

Q

I understand that we are saved by Grace through faith, but the servant who received the one talent was sent to a place of ‘weeping and gnashing of teeth’ because he as I understand it, did nothing with the gifts and talents god has given him. I am a born again spirit filled believer, but if at the end of my life I haven’t actually put the gifts God has given me to good use for his kingdom, is this saying that God wont accept me in heaven? I am confused because it also says there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. As you can see I am very confused as to what this scripture is actually talking about, Please help!!

A

Your confusion comes from the fact that, like many others, you haven’t carefully considered the context of this parable. Even though you saw the contradictions between it and passages that clearly apply to the Church, you didn’t take the next step to see just who the Lord was speaking to.

In Matt. 25, Jesus gave three illustrations of conditions on Earth at the time of His return, and they all have to do with the disposition of people who will have survived the Great Tribulation. We know this because in Matt. 24:29, 30, 36, and Matt. 25:1, 14, & 31 the Lord clearly identified the time of these illustrations as being after the 2nd Coming. Therefore, they can’t apply to us because the Church will have been raptured at least 7 years previously and won’t be on the earth when He returns, but will be coming down out of heaven in the New Jerusalem.
