Q. Do you believe a person can backslide? Suppose a born again person backslides, living in open sin–homosexual–adultery–drug-addicted etc etc. The person leaves the Lord, lives a life of rebellion and sin and dies while in open rebellion. Will that person go to Heaven? Can we “Live like Hell and go to Heaven” because of Once Saved Always Saved?”
A. Paul wrote that our righteousness comes through faith in Jesus Christ. He said that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God but are justified freely by His grace (Romans 3:21-24), and when Jesus went to the cross He forgave all of our sins (Colossians 2:13-14). That means past, present, and future.
All believers have problems with sin, some more serious than others, and all believers back slide to some degree. But no born again believer would deliberately set out to “live like hell and go to heaven” because that would be mocking the One whose death purchased our eternal life.
