Q
When you use anointing oil, can you anoint yourself and pray, and still be as effective as if someone else does it for you. I can understand where the “when two or more agree” might be in this issue, but can anointing be made personal, just between you and God?
A
Anointing with oil is the process by which we set someone apart for God’s special consideration. I don’t think there’s any harm in anointing oneself. But having two or three gathered together adds power to our prayers. Jesus said, “I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven.” For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them.” (Matt. 18:19-20)
