At the rapture the Word says that the dead in Christ rise first. If that is correct what happens to us when we die? Where do we go? Where are we if we need to wait to rise with Christ at the rapture?

In Phil 1:22-24 and 2 Cor. 5:6-8 Paul said that when believers die their spirits go to be with the Lord. As we all know, dead bodies are buried in the ground where they quickly decay. At the rapture these spirits will be given new resurrection bodies at the same time the bodies of the living are being transformed from mortal to immortal. Then we’ll all go together to the place the Lord has prepared for us (John 14:2-3). This is what is meant by the dead in Christ rising first.
