One centurion Or Two?

Q

I have a question about the centurions in Luke 7 and Acts 10. I don’t know where Capernaum or Ceasarea are located but is it possible that it is the same Roman Centurion met with Jesus and also with Peter?

A

Capernaum was on the northeastern shore of the Sea of Galilee and Caesarea was over 50 miles south and west on the Mediterranean coast, but following the roads it would have taken 3-4 days to travel from one to the other in Biblical times. The two events were separated by about 20 years in time, and one Centurion, Cornelius, was named while the other wasn’t. For these reasons there’s really no reason to assume that the two Centurions were the same person.
