Rapture Without Dying?

Q

Re: The rapture. I’ve found a lot of people believe that Christians will simply vanish from the earth to meet the Lord in the air. Is there Biblical revelation of this “disappearance” or is it just our assumption? Could it be that we believers could all simultaneously die, thus meeting the Lord in the air spiritually, leaving our bodies here?

A

In 1 Cor. 15:51 Paul wrote

Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed.

In the Greek language the phrase “I tell you a mystery” means Paul was revealing a secret, something that had not been explained before. When he said, “We will not all sleep” he meant we will not all die. Then he went on to say that in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, the living will be changed from mortal to immortal. In other words, we won’t leave our bodies behind. They will be instantaneously transformed from imperfect to perfect without passing through death.
