The Right Hand Of God

Q

Re: Luke 1:11. “An angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing at the right side of the incense altar.” I believe every detail in the bible is deliberate & by design. That being the case why in Luke 1:11 was the detail of where the Angel was standing included? Is there a significance to the “right side” of that altar or of the right side in general? There are other areas of the Bible that talk about the “right side”?

A

The right side is the preferred position and denotes power, influence or authority. It’s where the saying ,”He’s my right hand man” originated.

I didn’t take the time to research the whole Bible, but I know of 3 examples. In Psalm 110:1 the Father is telling the Son to sit at His right hand. In Matt. 26:64 Jesus said they would see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One. And as Stephen was being stoned he saw heaven open and the Son of Man was standing at the right hand of God (Acts 7:55-56).
