Q. Today my question is whether as Christians we can invest in the stock market, if done in manner that is systematic and careful. My husband wants to ‘trade’ according to Matthew 25 and Luke (for the 10 minas). Is the Stock Market an object of God’s wrath? This will be our part-time business to raise capital. We are concerned this is idolatory or adultery with the world.
A. You are smart to be concerned. If you want to invest in the stock market that’s your prerogative, but don’t try to use Bible verses to support it. The Lord told us not to store up treasure here, and he said we can’t serve Him and money at the same time. (Matt. 6:19,24). Your money would be far better invested in Kingdom work. The returns are guaranteed (Luke 6:38) and the dividends pay forever. (Matt. 6:20)
