Submitting To Governing Authorities

Q

Thank you so much for your website, it helps us so much in our study of the Bible. My questions is this: We know in Romans 13 it says we should obey the ‘government’ and we are to pray for our leaders, but praying for this administration is the hardest thing we have ever done. How do you pray for them when they are destroying America bit by bit? They throw the commandments back in the face of God and everyday we see more destruction by the laws they pass, the debt they create and their complete disregard for the will of the people. The only way we can justify praying for these evil people is that God put them in charge as the instrument to bring about the downfall of America and to bring the Rapture closer. Can you give us better insight to this?

A

It does seem like the USA is steadily sliding toward oblivion, and since we’re not found anywhere in End Times events maybe our leaders have been raised up as instruments of God’s judgment against a rebellious nation. But while it’s true that Paul admonished us to obey the law and submit to governing authorities (Romans 13:1-7) he didn’t say we’re required to pray for them. If you think you should, try asking the Lord to show them the error of their ways, and then ask the Holy Spirit to convict them and turn their hearts toward Jesus. Who knows, maybe some will respond.
