Q. Is there any difference between the teaching and the preaching of the word of God? If somebody is teaching the word of God is he is then also preaching to me?
A. The Bible differentiates between these two activities. The Greek words translated preach mean to proclaim or announce, as a herald or crier would publicly announce news of importance to the community. A teacher, on the other hand, is one who instructs others on various subjects.
Matthew used the two words together in describing what Jesus did in the towns of Galilee. After Jesus had finished instructing his twelve disciples, he went on from there to teach and preach in the towns of Galilee (Matt. 11:1). In other words, He publicly proclaimed the Good News, and He also instructed the people on how to apply it in their lives.
