I heard a sermon about God’s blessings and success in our earthly life. The preacher said that evil spiritual beings and forces are more of an obstacle to God’s blessings than earthly circumstances. He said most times trying to live a life pleasing to God, although essential, isn’t enough. What is required to lead a successful Christian life and partake of all of God’s blessings is the anointing of the Holy Spirit.
There is no Biblical teaching to support this view. When you were born again the Holy Spirit came to dwell within you. Not just part of Him but all of Him. According to Romans 12:1-8 He will assume as large a role in your life as you permit.
2 Cor. 1:21-22 says you have already been anointed by God Himself, set apart for His use, and His Spirit has been sent to dwell in your heart as a deposit guaranteeing what is to come.
This preacher has it all backwards. Like many others, he seems to have the opinion that God’s number one priority should be to make sure we get whatever we want out of our life. But the truth is, our number one priority should be to make sure He gets whatever He wants out of our life.
By doing so we’ll be blessed beyond measure, but it won’t be due to a special anointing of the Holy Spirit. It will be due to our willingness to offer our whole life as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to Him, and then let Him use it in whatever way He sees fit. That is the secret to living a blessed life.
