Q
Our small group leader uses Zephaniah 2:2-3 to show that we’ll be raptured before the time of God’s wrath. He says lots of people miss this because we’re reading the translation from Hebrew. He said if we looked at the Greek text we would see the same Greek word for wrath that Paul used in 1 Thes. 5:9. What do you think?
A
I see what your group leader saying. But that part of Zephaniah 2 was written to Judah who was called the “shameful nation” in Zeph. 2:1. The Church is not a nation and is not shameful. Zeph. 2:3 also says, “it may be ye shall be hid” There’s no maybe in the Lord’s promise to rapture the Church. This is why I don’t use Zephaniah 2:2-3 as a rapture proof text.
