Joel 2:31 says, “The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and terrible day of the Lord comes.” The moon gets dark or dims in other verses. This verse it says it will be red, BEFORE the Day of the Lord.. So is that a sign the Day of the Lord has actually begun, or is that just a red moon from smoke and debris?

I believe Joel 2:31 is looking toward Rev. 6:12, the 6th seal judgment, which takes place before the Great Tribulation (Day of the Lord) begins.
“I watched as he opened the sixth seal. There was a great earthquake. The sun turned black like sackcloth made of goat hair, the whole moon turned blood red.”
