I have been doing a lot of reading on your website and have learned from the questions and comments. Now I have a question. Who are the “watchers” mentioned in Daniel 4:17? Thank you for all the questions you answer.

The watchers are apparently heavenly beings. Since Daniel 4 was originally written in Aramaic, and the word translated watcher appears only there, it’s difficult to connect it with Biblical references to angels, but scholars have generally assumed they are one and the same. Angel actually comes from the Greek word for messenger, and some modern translations call these beings messengers for that reason. In the Hebrew language heavenly beings are usually called b’nai ha Elohim, or sons of God.
