What Does 1 Timothy 2:3-6 Mean?

Q

What does 1 Timothy 2:3-6 mean? According to the original language, what does the word “all” mean in these verses? Thanks so much!

A

Speaking of making intercessory prayers for everyone, whether kings or commoners, 1 Timothy 2:3-6 says,

This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all men – the testimony given in its proper time.

The Greek word translated all in verses 4 and 6 is pas. When referring to individuals, it means each, every, any, all, the whole, everyone, all things, everything and appears over 1200 times in the New Testament.

As Matt. 7:7-8, John 3:16, John 6:40, Romans 10:13, and 2 Peter 3:9-10 also show, God didn’t create anyone without any hope of being saved.
