Q
I have read Matthew chapter 25 about the 10 virgins, in the King James Bible, and it doesn’t mention anything in there about bridesmaids. Where did you get bridesmaids from Matthew 25?
A
Several English translations use the word “bridesmaids” instead of “virgins” in Matt. 25:1. The Greek word “parthenos” can mean a maiden of marriageable age, which makes “bridesmaid” an acceptable choice. I think the translators who chose “bridesmaids” did so to demonstrate their conviction that this parable is not about the Church, who is the bride, and as such is not mentioned in the parable.
